The Wind Academy pilot new gwo trAINING STANdard

2 July 2025

The Wind Academy had the groundbreaking opportunity to be the first company in the UK to pilot GWO’s new Training Standard – GWO HV Cable Pulling.

This pilot was carried out at the recently refurbished Old Carpenter’s Shop at Port of Blyth. The new state-of-the-art facility has allowed The Wind Academy to facilitate an increased number of courses and delegates whilst also streamlining training to a singular more central location.

6 delegates participated in the recently created course, with the aim of increasing knowledge of practices and safety precautions when working with High Voltage cables in a realistic environment

This pilot was a major success with The Wind Academy becoming accredited to offer this exciting new training standard, allowing delegates to gain both a qualification and valuable knowledge relevant to industry.

GWO Project Manager Thomas Redmond commented:

"This standard is a key example of how industry collaboration translates into practical, high-impact training. The pilot in the UK has shown us how training providers can deliver cable pulling training to the highest standards of safety and relevance, supporting wind project timelines and technician capability alike."
